Colorado Ghost Towns

Crystal - Ghost Towns

Link: More Information

On the north side of Schofield Pass is Crystal, it is much easier to drive to from the north. Crystal was a major mining area during the 1880s and 90s, mining continued until 1913. Crystal has never died, there are a number of houses and a small general store that is open during the summer months. On FSR314 between Marble and Crystal the Crystal Mill is perched above the Crystal River on a rock outcropping, it makes a great photograph.
How to get there: Take I-70 west to Glenwood Springs. Exit at Glenwood and take CO82 to Carbondale, then south on CO133 for 22 miles. Marble is 7 miles south of CO133 on FSR314. Crystal is another 6 miles west on FSR314. Cars can drive to Crystal if high centered and you watch what you are doing. Bogan Flats Campground is along the Crystal River just after you turn onto FSR314 from CO133.
