Elkton was the second-greatest gold-producing area in the world during the late 1800s and early 1900s; it turned out $50 million in gold. The population of Elkton was at 3000 in 1905. There were several communities in this district including Cripple Creek and Victor. Between the two communities was Elkton, which did not prosper into the 201 century. How to get there: Take US24 west from Colorado Springs passes Woodland Park to Divide. Turn south on CO67 to Cripple Creek. Drive through Cripple Creek, halfway between Cripple Creek and Victor are the remains of Elkton. See the Pikes Peak Area Chapter for campgrounds in the area.
